Of all the things that geeks really like tinkering with, it’s their machines. Some geeks are into putting together stuff, others are into taking apart stuff. I belong to the “taking apart” department. Whenever I have stuff that are ready to disintegrate, I am ready to take screwdrivers, pliers, whatever it would take, to pry my stuff open.
Last night, I thought my phone was about to die on me. But something told me that there was just some moisture inside. Though I had a good mind to put it under the sun, I decided to do something riskier: open it up, as is wont of my habits when things go awry with any of my machines.
True enough, when I opened it up, some gross scum-like... Stuff, was clinging to the borders of the metal clamping down its LCD display. It’s a good thing I got to it this early, because I would have had a truly dead phone by now.
To cut to the chase, I cleaned the border of the LCD, put the case back together, and I now have a functioning phone once more. From a dying phone, I had been able to resurrect it with a little bit of insight and some daring to just go ahead and fix it!
Yay.
My father’s former IBM laptop was not so lucky in my hands, however. When I put my screwdriver and my inquisitive fingers to it in 2001... It was then rendered a museum ornament of Humpty Dumpty proportions.
Guess my “tech magic” does not work virtually everywhere. :p
Update on my phone:
It works pretty well today (4/19/08). :p
